In this Passiontide devotion, we hear the seven last words of Jesus, spoken from the cross; we reflect on the worst of human nature and how it can be transformed through the mystery of self-giving love.

The seven last words, within their biblical readings, are accompanied by a reflection on the readings, a sentence from the poem The Last Words by Michael Symmonds Roberts and the choice of a hymn or an anthem.

The music provided has been chosen to be as flexible as possible, so that the service can be used with just the congregation singing the hymns; or with choir singing the anthems; or a combination of the two.

Last Words of Love includes six anthems in a variety of styles and difficulty, including four written specially for this collection by Joanna Forbes L’Estrange, Thomas Hewitt Jones, Peter Nardone and Amy Summers.
