A setting of the root of Jesse words in a poem by Jonathan Draper, who provided the words for the hugely popular Easter carol Out of the stillness. This unaccompanied carol was commissioned by Robert Sharpe, the new Director of Music at York Minster, for his first Carol Service in 2008, the first of a regular, yearly commission. As always with Shephard's music, singers will find the vocal lines particularly well written.
