I rediscovered and rewrote On this day earlier this year. I had always loved Holst’s setting, which inspired mine. The original version was commissioned and premiered by Ronald Corp and the Finchley Children’s Music Group some thirty years ago. Ron sadly died in May this year. I dedicate this carol to his memory. His significant contributions to English choral music have enriched our musical landscape for decades. I hope that this version for full choir and organ retains its freshness and vigour.
