“To Every Thing There Is a Season” is an amalgamation of the opening and closing movements of Joanna Forbes L’Estrange’s A Season to Sing, a choral re-imagining of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. The composer sets the words of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 in a quasi-Baroque style to complement Vivaldi’s music. To the final verse — ‘a time of peace’ — she adds ‘Dona nobis pacem’, thereby turning the anthem into a prayer for peace in our troubled world.
