This is the third version of the Play of Daniel to appear under the auspices of the Plainsong and Medieval Music Society. The new edition by David Wulstan brings together the learning of the scholar and the realism of the music director. It derives from his long experience of studying the text and performing the play with the Clerkes of Oxenford, whose recording of the work first appeared in 1976. The edition therefore has historiographical significance as well as practical usefulness; it represents a record of the reception history of the play and serves as a working text for performance.
