Despite the survival of an organ book which has been proven to be in Loosemore's hand (containing accompaniments for seventeen of his compositions), more than half of his now extant works are incomplete. Those that remain show him to be a composer of considerable ability: so much so that two of his anthems, O Lord, increase our faith and Why art thou so heavy, were until recently erroneously ascribed to Orlando Gibbons. The short, well-balanced full anthem Almighty and everlasting God in fact shares many stylistic characteristics and harmonic idiosyncrasies with O Lord, increase our faith, whilst Put me not to rebuke is a fine example of Loosemore's Stile Nuovo manner. Its dissonant harmonies, shifting tonality, angular vocal lines and chromatic passages all look forward to the mature style of the English Restoration composers.
