In Memoriam by Denis Bédard written in memory of Karel ten Hoope (1917-2012)
This is a bold triumphant piece, not, as one might expect, quiet and contemplative. A regular feature of the composer's style is the use, either directly or by allusion, of plainsong, which is evident in the fortissimo opening. The steady progression of mostly crotchet chords develops a simple, descending melodic pattern, with some rhythmic additions, leading to a triple-forte conclusion.
