Thomas Caustun

Little is known about the life of Thomas Caustun. He may well have been born between 1520-25 and had entered the service of the Chapel Royal by c1550, remaining there as a Gentleman (i.e. singing man) until his death in 1569. Nearly all Caustun's music was published by John Day, whose The whole psalms in four parts (1563) contained many of his metrical harmonisations, while seven anthems and three services were included in Certaine notes set forth in four and three parts (1565).
