 Scarf At a Service of the Word (see
above), the minister might wear a
scarf (sometimes called a ‘preaching scarf’) over his/
her surplice. A scarf is blue for a lay minister (Reader) and black for a deacon or priest.
Hood At some services (usually Morning
or Evening Prayer), an academic hood may be worn by
the minister or by members of the choir. Hoods mark the award of a university degree or diploma.
