
Controlling the breath with a hum
 As before, breathe in slowly over a count of 4 beats (keeping your shoulders and throat relaxed). Hold for 4 beats and then hum a fairly low note in your range for a count of 4 beats. Each time you repeat the exercise, increase the number of counts that you hum to, keeping the tone and the volume as even as possible. You could then try the exercise again, but instead of humming on the outward counts, sing the note to a vowel like ‘Oo’ or ‘Ah’.
 
 Remember: Breathing affects all aspects of your
singing so every singer, no matter how experienced, needs to work on their breathing and try to develop their lung capacity.
