a male voice which lies in pitch between the Tenor and the Bass
the lowest, or deepest male voice
the continued bass; an instrumental bass part in early music, with figures
(or numbers) under the bass notes to indicate the harmony that should be played on the keyboard instrument
a composition in several movements, generally for soloists and chorus rather like a short oratorio
a chanter. Someone who starts the singing, as in Plainsong, or who chants by him/herself as in the Litany, or helps animate the congregation to sing
in a cathedral, the side of the choir on which the Precentor (or Cantor) sits. Usually the left hand side on entering the choir from the nave
