A major sixth is the interval between the first and sixth notes of a major scale. In the scale of D major, D is the first note and B is the sixth note.


          A minor sixth is the interval between the first and sixth notes of a harmonic minor scale. (For more about harmonic minor scales, see page 20 of the Dark Blue workbook.) In the scale of D minor, D is the first note and B flat is the sixth note.



 Sing both of these intervals. Can you hear the difference? Which interval is larger?
 

On the staff on the left, write a note that is a major sixth higher than the one shown.
       On the staff on the right, write a note that is a minor sixth higher than the one shown.
