Mass for All Saints

Andrew Reid

Music for Common Worship

The kernel of this Mass for All Saints was initially written for use at All Saints' Church, Peterborough

from 2015. I have expanded it to include a setting of most of the text options found in 'Common

Worship'. Where further options exist for the Penitential Rite or Gospel Acclamation, for instance in

'Common Worship: Times and Seasons', these can be fitted to the musical formulae supplied.

The setting is designed to work with a cantor, choir, or cantor and choir, together with a congregation

and organist or keyboard musician. Harmony provided for the choir in several places is optional. I have

provided musical settings of most sections of the Eucharistic texts that tend to be sung, but that does

not mean that they should all be sung: in practice there is great flexibility about which are sung from

church to church. It is suggested that the various sections of the Eucharistic Prayer be sung as well as

the Sanctus, with the exact content depending on which of the Eucharistic Prayers in Common

Worship is used. This setting includes provision for each of Eucharistic Prayers A to G.

The setting does not depend on any parts being sung by the minister. However, it is possible for a

minister to intone the Gloria, and sing the Preface, Doxology and Dismissal if preferred. A

congregational part is supplied which can be customised by cutting and pasting as required to suit the

circumstances in which the setting is used.
