'As memorable and uplifting as The Mass of St Thomas, David Thorne has written yet another fine setting.'
Suitable for SATB alone or congregation only
Strong and memorable refrains
Accessible keyboard writing.
The setting was composed in 2009. Originally, it was felt that it would be very difficult to follow The Mass of St. Thomas, but there is still a demand from a number of musicians for a new setting, although congregations are rather more set in their ways! The structure is very similar, with an especially strong refrain in Gloria. The main difference is that the writing is designed for choirs with a strong SATB section. The part writing is far more interesting, but the melodic line can easily be sung by the congregation, Churches who sing this setting seem to enjoy it as much as The Mass of St. Thomas, and it has found a home in the Diocese of Oxford. The key of F may not be regarded as the best for choral writing, but it is essential for any setting sung in a parish church or within a large gathering for it to be easily sung by the congregation as well as the choir.
